MY ROUSES: ALGIERS, LA
I work at Arnaud’s in the French Quarter, but I live on the West Bank. My Rouses is the
Algiers store. It was recently renovated and the new produce department alone is reason
to shop at this store. The whole store is dynamite. Algiers is actually the second oldest
neighborhood in New Orleans, but most people assume its part of Jefferson Parish, like
Gretna, Belle Chasse, Marrero and Harvey. I’ve been around restaurants my whole life.
(My first job was at my dad’s place, The Little Italian.) I even worked with Rouses Bakery
Director, Chef Chaya Conrad, when she was at Arnaud’s. You can feel the history when you
walk into Arnaud’s or Rouses. I make sure my food lives up to our restaurant’s reputation
the same way the Rouses make sure each store lives up to their family’s name.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT ROUSES
In March we put up St. Joseph Altars in four of our stores, and each one was blessed by a
different priest.We were honored to have New Orleans Archbishop Aymond, Bishop Jacob
and Fathers Reale and Rodrigue bless our altars ... We built 8 new boiling trailers for our
stores around South Louisiana and Mississippi. ...We also joined
Chef MattMurphy from
Irish House
and
Justin Kennedy from Parkway Bakery
at the charity cook-off
Hogs for
the Cause
. Matt kept us in Jameson and McCallum, while Justin kept us laughing through-
out the 24-hour setup and sale ... In April we sponsored the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer
Center Golf Tournament in Houma ...
The BlackWidow
took home the coveted Crawfish
Cup at our fourth annual
RousesWorld Championship CrawfishContest
, but Corey “the
Bayou Boy” Fangue from Chauvin gave her a run for her money ... We sponsored Festival
International in Lafayette again this year.
